Francis Shelter Newsletter – 19 June 2014

SUNDAY (15.06.2014): Anh was sick and had to go to the hospital. So I had to found a new interpreter, but with the help from Kelly this was no problem.
I was travelling together with 2 friends of mine and the new interpreter Cuc to the Shelter. There were only the two girls present. But we made a good plan
for the upcoming new “3-sundays-volunteers-train-volunteers-program”. The girls are motivated and they want to do that with our help.
But actually it´s not clear, if we get new volunteers who will join the training. I did not have the contact to the volunteers.

Beside that we had our new butterfly-straps and I made a wheelchair-training with the 2 volunteers. I taught them some basic-knowledge how to handle the wheelchair in different situations and we trained the right transfer of patients to get in and out of the wheelchair. Then we did a walk outside the Shelter with 4 kids in wheelchairs. That was a good experience for all of us.

THURSDAY (19.06.2014): I went with a volunteer-girl to the Shelter. She did a really good job as a therapy-assistant and interpreter and will join maybe again next week. There were 3 boys (maybe around 20) volunteering. They told us, that they are volunteering for the whole week. If we had know that before, it has been a perfect situation for a training on Sunday, before they start to volunteer at the Shelter for one week. We have to tell Mr. Chau, that he has to inform us about such a situation the next time.

Beside that, I get 3 butterfly straps from the wheelchair factory and I also get 2 Pezzi-Balls. And I also was in search for some wedge-shaped-bolsters. I was in many therapy-shops and also sport-shops, but there was nothing like that. For the moment, I think this is enough, because there´s no space for storing the therapy stuff and things will get lost.  Have a nice Friday and a good start into the weekend,
