Que Phu Elementary School is located approximately 25km south of the ancient & charming town Hoi An. The school was built prior to 1975. Recently two other schools were merged in with Que Phu, which increases the total number of students to 474 and is divided into 19 classes. The main source of income for people of Que Phu Commune is agriculture with only 10% of small businesses. The school received limited funding from the government, mainly to support teachers’ salary & compensation. Upgrades to infrastructure and amenities are heavily relied on parents’ contributions. There is a reading room at the school, but it is currently under-utilized and being used to store old books. Students do not have access to new books or new leisure reading materials. Recognizing the current constraints & limitations, BeCause team will work with Que Phu school to renovate the reading room & provide additional reading materials, along with a new computer & a projector.
