About Our Champions:
Truong Duc Quan
My name is Quan. I’m 16 and currently studying at HUS High School for Gifted Students. I have traveled to many mountainous regions in Viet Nam and witnessed all the difficulties that children there have to face: traveling to school through dangerous areas, worn-out school infrastructure, etc. That’s why I signed up for this project to support them. My goal was to raise money to build a library and create a better study environment for these children. I hope that they could have a greater chance of becoming financially stable in the future.
The school I have chosen to support is Xeo Di Ho, an elementary boarding school for ethnic minority students located in the Yen Bai province. Their students were struggling with a lack of study materials. Therefore, I fundraised to provide them with books to fill up their library and computers to help them learn more efficiently. The books were chosen carefully to fit the needs of the students. They are written in either English or Vietnamese to develop children’s language abilities, and the content is suitable for elementary students.
This experience has made me appreciate my privileges and allowed me to aid the school, the students, and their parents.
Nguyen Duc Minh
I once thought that all the poverty in Northern Mountainous Region of Vietnam was not real, that the people there live the same lives as we were in the city. Until I went there and witnessed the scene with my own eyes: houses, roads, schools, and people. The difference was huge and that moment was when I realized we need to do something to help them get through this extreme adversity.
As a child who lives in a city with numerous opportunities, I noticed the inequality between us and the children in mountainous areas. I scavenge big organizations in order to help me with creating a charity, creating a balance between us children. As soon as I found one with a brilliant reputation, I started to plan ways to create a charity big enough, aiming to build a library in one of the schools I have visited and then started from there.
The reason why I aim to build a library was that the amount of knowledge one book contains can help enlighten a person. Thus the group I aim at are the children since they will be the future of our country, and they will have more opportunities for their paths. Moreover, a library doesn’t simply give them books to read, but more comfortable space to study.
To me, it’s an honor to be able to provide for the children in need and impart this contribution as an example for other people my age. In addition, I also put my hope into the children I’ve given my help to, that one day in the future they will turn our country into a better place.
