- The school currently does not have a library or reading room; specialized books for teachers and students here are few; there are no computers to serve the information search needs of teacher sand students.
- The students here do not have much access to books, stories, and information technology, so they can not read quickly, write fluently according to their age and chances to improve their educational level, expand their knowledge and get closer to the development of modern society is very difficult.
- As part of 2019 Charity Mission, BeCause will provide school supplies including notebooks, pens, pencils, rulers. Other commodities such as bookshelves, books and computers will also be provided.
- Hello, I am Le Quyen Nguyen and I am supporting a charity campaign by BeCause to build a library for La Pan Tan elementary school. The children of northern Vietnam usually don’t have access to proper education due to the lack of facilities and school supplies. I believe reading and studying are basic rights that every child should have. Therefore, this campaign is such a meaningful activity that I can participate in. In the future, I would like to contribute more to other philanthropic projects like this one.
- My name is Chau Giang Pham and I am currently a 12th grader studying in the US. Growing up, I was inspired by the work of the people around me and knew that I had a mission to give back to society. From a young age, I had the opportunity to join numerous campaigns, fundraising events and charity projects, many of them aimed to help children in the mountainous areas of Vietnam.
- However, my first empirical trip to La Pan Tan, Yen Bai had left me speechless as I witnessed the effect poverty and illiteracy has exerted on this village. The sight of children walking barefoot in the cold winter, schools without adequate supplies, students with little to none access to modern learning equipment had struck my mind and motivated me to do more.
- The only practical and long term solution to ensure a better future for the children in this village is to bring Education as it is the root to solve poverty. Through BeCause, a US-based non-profit organization, my teammates and I decided to build a stable learning institution to provide a safe place for students to expand their knowledge and to nurture their dreams – La Pan Tan Elementary/Middle School. The school will provide for 1069 students, 50.84% from low income families and 98.9% are minorities. Our goal budget is $1500 which will allow us to provide the school supplies and commodities including notebooks, pens, and also bookshelves, books and computers. To reach this goal, we call for donations for books, stationery and financial support. During the year, we sold various second-hand and hand-made souvenirs, clothes, at local markets. Another major fundraising event we organized was selling hand-made Tet holiday envelopes during Lunar New Year. We are also very grateful to receive personal and group donations, both financial and objects. However, there is still a long way to go in order for us to reach our goal.
