Constructed in 2011, Community Volunteering Center (CVC) was started by ECO Vietnam Group (EVG) with a goal of providing a sustainable hub for the community in Gia Bac to gradually improve and raise awareness of education, health, and environment for local people. EVG was founded by Harry Pham Van Anh, a progressive leader in promoting community and volunteering services. Graduated from Nanyang Technological University, he returned to Vietnam with a dream to give the new generation of underprivileged communities an opportunity to access to education and break away from the circle of poverty, while educating the youth in Vietnam who have opportunities of attending college to appreciate and give back to less fortunate ones.
Facts:
- Gia Bac is one of the poorest communes of Di Linh town in Lam Dong Province.
- 99% of the population is from ethnic minority group K’ Ho.
- The main source of income comes from harvesting coffee and corn.
- Population: approximately 2,500 people
Project Info:
Built with eco-friendly mindset and local materials, the Community Volunteering Center consists of four main components:
- Community Library
- Classrooms & Cultural Hall (future expansion)
- Community & Guest House (future expansion)
- Playground for Sport Activities and Outdoor Classroom (future expansion)
Gia Bac Community Library is the 1st phase and main building of the CVC complex. Through various educational programs offered at the library, the children can learn more about the advanced knowledge of the society, change their way of thinking, and set their future goals in the right direction.
What BeCause Supports:
- Human Resources: We recognize that a qualified and dedicated librarian will be a torch to keep the center operation and expand program impact to the larger community.
- Program Development: We also recognize that the program portion will keep students and community interested and engaged in the library activities. Our support will allow EVG to organize monthly event at CVC for the children and local people of Gia Bac.
We wish to provide long-term support to EVG to expand their current facility and broaden their impact to larger communities beyond Gia Bac.
