Francis (Phan Sinh) Shelter is a home to nearly 60 orphans, elders, physically, and mentally disabled adults and children, majority with terminally illness. The shelter is managed by Mr. Chau, an English teacher with unconditional love for the unfortunate. In order to keep the shelter operation, Mr Chau and his volunteers set up a small farm at the shelter by raising chickens, frogs, and fishes. Every morning they have to collect vegetables from the wholesale market and sell them to local farm animal breeders/farmers. In the afternoon, they collect leftovers from restaurants and cafeteria to feed their farm animals, afterwards sell them to local markets. BeCause visited the shelter during our charity mission in 2013. We were shattered by the illness and conditions that these people have to suffer. Meanwhile we were touched by the smiles of the children and Mr. Chau’s dedication to the terminally-ill patients. BeCause plans to develop physical therapy programs. Our focus is to help people suffering from an injury or illness build strength and flexibility find their way back to performing everyday functions to live a normal life. Our volunteers will provide education courses on exercises and stretches aim at rehabilitation and independence. Courses will also educate caregivers and residents on proper use of medical devices, as well as medical care.
